The human brain one of the most sensitive parts of the human body despite being protected by the thick bones of the skull it is susceptible to damage and disease. From physical damage which could be closed head injury , a blow on the head to its being susceptible to degenerate disorders like Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer disease.
COMMON HABITS THAT HARM THE BRAIN
Smoking: This habit can cause multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.
Overeating: It causes hardening of the brain arteries , leading to a decrease in mental power.
Too much sugar consumption: Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.
Skipping breakfast: Not eating breakfast would lead to a lower blood sugar level which would lead to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.
Sleeping less: Sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells.
Working your brain during illness: Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain damaging effects.
Exposing oneself to air pollution: The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.
HOW TO CARE FOR THE BRAIN
* Drinking at least 4litres of water each day , or 6 to 8 glasses a day hydrates your brain
*Consuming a fiber rich diet will slow down digestion and gradually release the sugar into your bloodstream. Its very important because the brain works on 100% sugar, but it needs to be delivered steadily in proper amounts so as not to overload brain. Fiber helps slow down sugar absorption.
Foods that contain much fiber:
*Dried fruits: Dates , apricots, raisins
*Vegetables: Green peas, spinach, broccoli
*Peas and Beans: Black eyed peas, kidney beans
*Nuts and Seeds: Almonds and Flaxseed
*Whole fruits: Avocados, oranges, peas and apples
